The history of Soapstone goes back as far as the history of the "Appalachian Mountains". Soapstone has been sought after throughout the world for its many desirable qualities. Soapstone is a natural product consisting of talc, chlorite, dolomite and magnesite minerals.
For decades, Soapstone has been used extensively in laboratories and science classrooms as a countertop surface because of its' unique feature of an inert product. This means acids and alkalis will not affect Soapstone as they would other natural stones.
In Colonial New England, Soapstone was desired because of its' superior heat retention traits. Soapstone will heat quickly, retain the temperature and slowly radiate very evenly for hours. This attribute makes Soapstone a perfect choice for fireplace hearths, wood stoves and fireplace liners. Soapstone's superior heat retention provides a warm feeling to the touch, unlike the cold, brisk feel of other natural stones.
Soapstone is currently used in the above mentioned as well as for cookware, countertops and sinks. It is an excellent alternative stone for use in typical granite or marble applications.

The Soapstone countertop and "Long Fellow" double bowl sink, shown here above, in the oiled "Spruce Knob" stone color, adds a unique look to any room.

Our "Blue Ridge" single bowl sink nicely accents this cabinet.
This one is done in the oiled "Smoky Mountain" stone color.
